Faith Cometh When the Hearing is Started by Pastor Melissa Scott

I have been told over and over again, “You’ve just got to have faith.” Well, I know that. The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6) I have said there are times you shouldn’t pray because the Bible says, concerning prayer, “Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.”

Not a thing wavering.

“For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.” (James 1:6-7) So you are just wasting time praying without faith. I know that!

So when someone verbally beats me on the head because I don’t have faith and says, “You’ve just got to believe.” I say, “Lord, help me. I know that. But how?” How do you get from the “not having” to the “having”? Right here. When you lack faith, quit beating yourself over the head because you don’t have it. You can’t manufacture it on your own, but you can do something on your own: you can start the hearing process.

God’s Word says, “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” I may be so weak in faith I can’t even lift myself up, much less hang in there, but I can start hearing. Start planting the seed of faith. Quit worrying about your lack of faith, and start the hearing process: packing in the Word. My responsibility begins and ends with the hearing task.

God’s Word says “faith cometh” when the hearing is started, and the hearing “by the word of God.”
